Im going shipping later/tomorrow for some fishy bits:

easycarbo
tpn+
a heater for the 200l
maybe a heater for the 60l
plants

coconut shell (where do i get that from)
terracotta pots
nylon thread

The easycarbo and tpn+ - is that the right thing to get for a low maintenance tank? Is there a specific brand to go for?

Can i have some help with the heater - i want it to automatically go on/pff according to temp. Temp fluctuates quite a lot in this house, and im constantly adjusting the thermometer in the 60l! Not got one in the 200l atm, but need one now.

Is there anything else you might think i need?

Typically, low tech tanks dont have carbon addition. The carbon addition increases growth so it's not longer regarded as low tech.

All heaters will do this now.

My 60l tank goes hot n cold quite a lot - anything from 23 up to 28 :/ obviously not great for the fish. think i need a new heater in there too!

I didnt realise that all heaters go on and off - i turn mine up a bit if the tank gets cold, but it just gets hotter and hotter, and doesnt turn off - maybe im not leaving it long enough to turn off , i dunno!

Hi,

I recently did a coconut cave for my new tank. Scraped any residue of coconut out, boiled shell for 20 mins to get rid of any colour etc and tied a anubias plant to the top. Fish love it, its there hidy hole as my kids would say. Love to see a photo of your tank when done.

will be going to get a coconut later

got the coconut, they dont like it yet  i also found a stunning piece of bogwood, but it was £25, and i just couldnt justify that when i bought a piece 3/4 of the size last week from pets at home for under £6!

so im getting ferts today - can someone please recommend me some? most seem to use tpn+ on here it seems - ive also seen dennerle at my lfs, is that any good or not?

You could go with tpn+. There's only one light tube right? So you wouldnt have to dose everyday. Maybe just twice a week.
Small water change at the end of the week.
If you wanted faster growth then you could dose easycarbo. You'd have to dose the tpn+ more if you did dose easycarbo though.
Dennerle are good. Not sure if they do a product with macros...

No theres 2 mate, 38w each. So is that every day or still twice a week? The dennerle i saw yesterday there were loads of different ones, but i dont know what macros im looking for :/

You'll struggle to find tpn plus at an lfs IMO, you might find macros (nkp) sold in 3 different bottles. They can be expensive though, so if I was you I'd go for the tpn + off the net if they don't sell it
