Going On Vacation...question About Lights

I've lazy about photos but here is one from May. I've added things since this and of course there has been growth.

Don't apologize, that's an awesome pic, and an amazing looking tank. I'd probably cancel my cable subscription if I had that in my house!

A friend of mine at work (whom I'm putting together a South American biotype tank) has a reef tank very similar to that. He has such fast growth of his corals that he has been selling them fairly regular so that they won't attack each other. Not to hijack the thread - but do you have any issues with that?

:) Thanks. I'm going to do a video soon, when I get around to it, where I just leave the camera on the tank at sunset. The lights on the tank slowly dim over the course of about 30 minutes until lights out. It's the most relaxing thing in the world.

Fragging corals is a regular part of the reefkeeping hobby. We have a local club here that does this on a regular basis. There are many benefits to this especially considering that some reefs are declining. There may come a day when certain corals only exist because aquarists grow and trade them. Pruning corals is like pruning plants, it has to be done to keep things alive. I try to pick my corals and place them in such a way so that this doesn't happen but it's hard for it not to. The only problem that can happen from doing this is if the location of trade has laws against it. Here in Arizona we can trade from aquarist to aquarist and even to the LFS's without breaking any laws. I am guessing it's probably the same in PA but it's always wise to check.
