As for lights, if you wanna go the route of using LED's and having live plants, I would recommend Finnex Planted Plus 24/7. Amazing lights, 660 nm, you can customize the white, blue, green and red outputs. It also has a built in cycle, from sunrise to sunset along with moon lights! Gradually adjusting the lights to the time of day. It also has 4 different settings, thunder and lightening (which I wouldn't have on, it's just random flashes of light, it might scare the fish), cloudy, daytime, and night, And if your power goes out, it won't break the light cycle!
They're kind of costly but I'd say it's totally worth it. I'm getting the 48 inch light strip for my 55 gallon soon, my girlfriend is using the 20 inch for her 10 gallon and she loves it.

Let me know how it works on your 55! I am contemplating one of these lights for a future setup, though I might need something stronger to get things to carpet properly in it.

ok then sand it is!!! Tank is full but only so I can level it just letting the carpet settle then il drain half off and get some wooden shims to get it spot on its not to far off now but can tell its out.

so as mine is a 200L ( 55gal ) id need to get the 48 inch light strip il go have a look at them now.

thanks for your reply's

RCA just looked at your tank build looks very nice and very well put together!! were can I get the pure ammonia from will dobbies sell it not that many fish shops here in Liverpool well that are what id call clean and fish look happy, been to 3 by me and tell you the truth I wouldn't buy the fish from them as they don't look right if you know what I mean.

Sorry for the delay...thanks for your feedback on my Juwel Vision, everyday it gets better and I love it. I will in the journal, in due course write up what I would do differently if I was to start again.

I got the pure ammonia from an old fashioned hardware shop, it is hard to get hold off though, but is also available online. Check Amazon or just google it and you will find it. I found this was an excellent way to ensure a healthy tank prior to adding the fish.

o one more thing is it better to have gravel or sand at the bottom of the tank?
Interestingly, in the Juwel Vision, from my journal you will see I have two different substrates. The corys tend to live at the rear of the tank with the Unipac small gravel vs the front of the tank with the sand. I am however not sure if this is because the plants give a nice canopy for them there, or whether it is because the BNs like to "control" any food at the front of the aquarium? Or of course, just their preference? That said, if I was to start over I would put sand in for the bottom feeders to forage in, so I believe sand is a good choice, with quality root tabs for the plants.

Any pics of your tank please...:)

Always be wary of advice from a LFS, many of them are just interested in selling the product (and if your fish die, they can sell you new fish).

Check your hardware stores for ammonia based cleaning products, just make sure there's nothing else in them (detergents, colours, flavours etc).

hi thanks for the link had a look on the boots website but no good I have found it on ebay for £5 so il get that ordered tonight and il start if off tomorrow.

my tank I'm going to put some blue gavel on one side then sand in the other side to give it the look like beach and water I hope.

Hi just a quick one can anyone tell me why my water is cloudy, I washed the sand and iv put the water in slowly, added the water conditioner and the bio enhancer and its gone mercy is this normal?

Water is dirty at the mo and still need to get the backing photo and a few plants

Awesome looking tank!

The most likely reason for cloudy water is a bacterial bloom. Most (if not all) tanks get this when they are first set up. It will clear in a week or so and is nothing to worry about. Don't bother trying to get any water clarifiers, they don't work as well as you'd hope and it's just money you don't need to spend. You'll wake up one morning soon and have beautifully clear water.

Your concepts are different, and rather cool. Did you use a substrate divider underneath the changed sections to keep them in place? What are your fish plans other than your guppies?
Are you planning any bottom feeders?

Hi thanks for that what I did was put the wet sand in and made the outline of were I was putting the gravel then just put it in.

Fish now that's a good question going to be putting my guppies in 11 if them then then I might go for 12 neon terra then 2 Ramirez few cherry barb about 6 to 9, 1 or 2 Bolivian Rams. and a good few Apistogramma

Corydoras for bottom and Ottocinclus

numbers and fish will change in sure but that's what I like the look of.
