Hey all, this is Tomcattwist. I work at Petco in the birds dept. but have recently been put in aquatics. Anyway, we recieved a fish called a Goby Crazy Fish and no one seems to know anything about them. I had a lady ask about them and I knew nothing. I told her I would try and find out. Does anyone know anything about the crazy fish? Can it be in a community tank, habits ect.

Thanks much Tomcattwist

"Crazy fish" is a common name often used for Butis butis, a predatory sleaper goby which occurs from mainly brackish habbitats.

It certainly isnt a standard community fish as it is a voracious feeders which can and will swallow fish close to its own size. They grow to around 6 inches and although the fish is sometimes found in freshwater in the wild they do much better in a reasonably brackish tank with a SG of at least 1.010.

not Tomcattwist's fault i know, but all i can say is well done petco, ordering in a predatory fish without telling their employees anything about them :/

Thanks for the responses. Ya, sometimes Petco can be like that. Each store is different and I think ours tries a little harder to be the best at what we do. They ordered in 2 Trigger's and said they cost over $200. One was sick when it got there and died. The other is an eating machine, I have to net feed the snowflake eel because the trigger gets all the fish, but I looked it up and found that it is a Picaso Trigger, not what they said it was. The eel slowly is getting bigger and better at catching fish now so he gets more of them now. Thanks for the comments. Tomcattwist

Tomcattwist again, I found out that the Goby Crazy Fish was a donation to Petco. That is why no one knows about it, but that doesn't let Petco off the "hook."
