What does everyone think of these little buggers? Too bad they're illegal in Canada :( I think getting a tank full of glow in the dark plants/rocks and having a tank full of GloFish with a black light to top it off would be awesome. What do you all think?

i say it's a good thing they aren't widely available.
whats wrong with the real zebra danio?
we shouldn't alter fish (or any animal) for personal gain
especially only monetary gain.

Well...for starters, a regular zebra danio doesn't glow...

:p

I just think they're cool looking, I've never really taken a liking to the regualr zebra danios, I think they're just too plain. Then again I was disappointed that they chose zebra danios as their test subject. I just think it'll take time then the GloFish will be widely available... which sucks cause I don't want them in 45 seconds...I want them now!

I prefer the natural zebra danios, I think they're much prettier. Glowing fish would remind me of some type of nuclear disaster. As far as I know, the treatment the fish go through doesn't harm them, but I still don't like the idea of altering fish for human enjoyment.

(And yes, I know human enjoyment wasn't the reason they were developed in the first place, but it doesn't make keeping them at home feel any better.)

B_C do u know that 1,000 danios are born and 800 died how many u think are alive yeah (All for a little color)

hmm.. well, its the age old ethical debate really. personally i think its abit wrong and wouldnt buy one, just as i wouldnt buy a painted glass fish thing either, or even a fantail that just couldnt swim becuase of the finnage..

i also think zebra danios are so beautiful naturally.

Oh man you just started another really long debate. All I'm going to say is that they are not nearly as bad as fancy goldfish or parrot fish or flower horns.

I don't see how these are cute or cool looking. They kind of have a creepy x-men vibe thing going on.

By the way, the site I got this from also has glow in the dark bunnies. FUN FUN!!!

My opinion?

They're awfully expensive for danios, and the ones I've seen don't have much color.

I know that my LFS disagrees with it wholeheartedly and has told me that on occassion he has been sent dyed fish instead of the ones he has ordered. He keeps them in a separate tank and doesn't sell them to the public and lets them live out their lives in his shop - ain't that nice.

I say that anyone here who actually agrees with so called glofish should put themselves up to the scientific community so they can perform all sorts of dye injection techniques in an attempt to make them look prettier... :D

Then again - everybody has their own opinions and it is each to their own.

I think gentic altering, any kind of it- will eventually lead to disaster.

I wholeheartedly agree. If science continues in the way that it is - we will be the death of our own species as well as all of the others on this planet.
