I'm trying to get some glass tops for my 55gal baced tank. It basically has two areas that are 24"x12". Now I've bought perfecto/marineland and versa-top lids and neither would fit. The perfecto/marineland is 1/4 of an inch too long. the same thing was with the versa tops, too long and they weren't deep enough. Any Ideas why I am having this problem. The tank came from petsmart, so I think its an All Glass tank.

What exactly do you mean by glass tops (cover glasses on slide rails)

for that size tank, instead of spending loads on petstore lids.

go to your department store and buy some toughened glass cutting boards/place mats. they are the perfect size and have silicone pads to rest on the rims.

that what i use and they are really good.

Heres what I'm looking for. I just need something that is see-throu and I can open on one side. Right now I have plastic hood with a little plastic window in them, I'm upgrading my lights and the hood I have now blocks most of tha light.

Gill I'm not quite sure I follow what you are doing....

OK
Seeing as you have the hinge, then go to your local glass merchants and buy two pieces of glass to suit your tank and fit the hinge to these. I'm sure you can sort out the little handle without too much trouble.

All look into it. The handle won't be a problem since I haven't attached to the glass yet.
Pity that the originals are only 1/4 inch too big because you could have had them cut down but for something that small its impossible. So youll have to get some more glass.

I had the same problem that you are having. I could not find a glass top to fit my tank so I found this. It is part # CD-114942.

Looking at that site you can buy just the hinges& handles, any hardware store can cut glass to fit your tank.

I used to do stained glass long ago, not suncatcher type pieces, mostly panels, the more difficult the cuts the better. 1/8" clear glass is easy for someone with experience working in stained glass to trim 1/4" off of, you may want to ask at a stained glass shop.
