Hi. I noticed today that one of our glass catfish (we have two) has a red sort of splodge on its side, above its swimbladder. It is red enough to be maybe blood - like internal bleeding or something - but i have no idea how this could have been caused. I put a pic in so you can see. It is poor quality but its the best I can do.

Catfish

It is swimming perfectly normally, and doesn't seem to be bothered by it but I am very worried about what it might be.

Tank stats are:

20 gallon tank, with:

1 Angelfish
6 neons
1 Black neon
2 glass catfish
2 Rosy tetras
3 rosy barbs

pH is 7.4
GH is 10
Nitrite and Ammonia are 0
Did a water change two days ago so I don't think Nitrate is very high.

Only thing I can imagine might have conceivably caused it is that I turned off the aeration today because I want more CO2 in my tank for the plants. However, there is still plenty of water turnover from the Fluval 3 filter in there, so I doubt lack of oxygen is an issue.

What is wrong with him/her (not sure which!)?

If it's a red streaky patch it's septicemia, which is hard to cure.

It's a very bright red blob, looks like it could be internal bleeding, right above and spread around the swim bladder. It is not on the surface - it is inside the fish. You can only see it because the fish is see-through.

If it is internal bleeding there is nothing you can do, has he injured himself do you think.

Could be that the skin has hemoraged sorry can't spell that, add some melafix to the tank, so it dosn't get infected.

Thanks Wilder.

Should I put him in a separate three gallon tank by himself or should I leave him in the 20 gallon with al the other fish?

Any ideas anybody?

Leave him in the tank for now, not to stress him.

Ok major emergency - now one of my neons has tail rot!

Could it be possible that the angel has attacked him. If so, it has never happened before and I have never seen the angelfish show agression to the neon.

Will salt cure it? How much salt should I add to the gallon? Should I remove him to the separate tank and dose him with salt?

HELP!

How bad is the tailrot, I would move him if you are going to use salt as angel don't like it, its one tablespoon to 5 gal, good luck.

So he'll be ok by himself in the three gallon right? With a bit of salt?

Tail rot isn't too bad I don't think, but I have never seen it before so couldn't say. The top half of his tail is in shreds and his body near the tail is a bit split. Will try the salt treeatment now.

I think I would add a finrot and fungus med to his tank, it sounds abit bad, you can leave the salt in as well.

Thanks. Unfortunately I can't get to the fish shop until next weekend, so the salt will have to do for now.

Glass catfish seems to be perfectly fine apart from the red blodge. Could it be possible it is pregnant!?!

I couldn't say for sure as I no nothing about glass cat fish sorry, ask in tropical chit chat they might no, good luck.
