i have ordered the glass for my custom tank, the dimension of the tank are 54" x 29" x 12".the back sides and bottom are made of plywood... the front pane is 10mm glass, but he said it didn't need to be toughend. i do trust him because he is a reputable fish tank builder and he builds all the custom tanks for my LFS from normal glass, but im still optimistic about the trength of it.

what are your thoughts on this... do you think it will hold?

cheers

personally, i dont like the idea of haveing glass/plywood together, it doesn bond as good as glass and glass together... good luck though!

ive constructed the tank so that each edge of the front pane has 3 surfaces to bond to (on the back, side, and front) the farme at the front is double layer ply and theres a hell of a lot of screws holding the face of it in so the glass wil be pushing against the front of the frame... theres no doubt its an extremely rigid frame... no worries of the the glasses coming out.

How do u seal the ply wood?
i'm gonna put 5mm glass all round the inside surfaces and silicone between them ( as suggest by the custom tank bloke)

Woudln't wood soak up water?
Thats why hes putting glass all around the inside of the wooden box. You can apperently use expoxy or fiberglass and it forms a water proof shell so water wont soak into the wood

what happens if the glass breaks tho, its only 5 mm, if it isnt right tight agains tthe wood it might explode, sounds safe tho
