I have a 10 gallon aquarium that has been set up for about 7 months now. I just put 3 ciclids and just found out a very bad idea, a dragon eel into the tank. The dragon eel has been nibbled on by the ciclids and is now missing his top fins. But the big problem is there has been since than a rapid growth of a red rusty looking algae has grown on the gravel and decor in my aquarium. My pet store said it was algae, I never heard of red algae before. What causes it and how do I stop it. I'd appreciate sme help!!!
Red algea is a pain, but also the easiest to wipe off the tank. But I found that if the tank is too warm and the water isn't cirrculated enough, that red algea may occur. Is your tank near a heat source other than the heater? How warm is your water?

still be carefull about getting them enough to eat. most people think that just because there is a little gunk in the tank the plecos have enough food. infact, most "misterous" alegae eaters deaths are because they starve to death without their people knowing about it. you may be right about them not out growing then tank, but all three of them together might not like it when they dont have any room to claim their own space. and try to give them caves and wood to hide in. :fun: :p

I have 3 plecos right now in my 55 gallon. And will get more once i get my 125 gallon next month.
