what are ghost shrimp, what species/classifcation are they? how big do they get? does anyone have pictures of them?

You could look for a bamboo shrimp :) They get a little bigger (mine's about 4") and have a lovely cream stripe down their back.

I've been thinking of keeping these as well, but I'm worried as I hear they can get aggressive at warmer temperatures? (I live in a tropical country in Asia)

Also, would dwarf gouramis likely eat them?

I've got a couple of dwarf gouramis (and opaline, flame, and gold) and they leave my ghost shrimp and my amano algae eating shrimp alone. Sometimes, they take the food from the shrimps at feeding time, but the shrimps spend all of their time scavenging for food anyway. They all do fine. (They're just freshwater invertebrates) :p

Fishy... do you really have all of those fish in your tanks? They seem quite overstocked.

Woah!!! Heavily overstocked!!! With cichlids!!!

Most shrimp do not attack other organisms in the tank. Many simply lack capability to attack other animals in the tank. That being said, there are some predatory shrimp, but most common shrimp available to freshwater folk are not. They will eat dead fish or snails. They may aslo start on any that are sick and dying.

Thanks, ren. I want to keep the shrimp as my algae eater rather than getting corys (though they're cute) since the latter has to be kept in groups and intolerant of salt. Which brings me to my next question, will the ghost shrimp be ok with some salt in the water (as usually put in for livebearers)? How about brackish water?

We've got some of these, they're fan feeders, so lack the equipment to attack anything bigger that a food particle.

One of ours succesfully moutlted last night!
