Just wondering - will bettas attack ghost shrimp? Thanks!

Not only will your bettas attack the ghost shrimp, they will eat them. You can consider those shrimp to be possibly the most expensive betta feed on the market, but on the plus side your fish will love you for it. :D

Haha!

I think it really depends on the betta - most will attack and others might leave them alone.

I had a ghost shrimp w/ one of my lil' guys and the betta would chase that sucker around til it was so stress it died!

But seeing how they're cheap - you could give it a try

I've known bettas who didn't care about ghost shrimp, and I've had bettas hunt them in a serious instance of blood lust. Bettas have wildly different temperments and generally, what I just said holds true for any creature added to your betta's environment.

I like ghost shrimp. They're delightful creatures, like little aqua-squirrels.

If you do get a tankmate for your betta, shrimp or not, make sure there are adequate hiding places for both betta and shrimp. I've noticed one commonality with all bettas who have tankmates -- if they're forced to look at their tankmate (fish or otherwise), constantly, for too long, eventually flip out and try and take it on. :D

"Wat choo lookin at punk, eh???" :<

I watched a video online of a female betta community hunting a dozen or so ghost shrimp, it was like watching one of those goofy dinosaure shows on the discovery channle with the raptors, the fish were like hunting together in a pack, was really cool :D worth the 10 bux in ghost shrimp.

I know first hand what a betta can do too a ghost shrimp, i added one to my boys tub once to give him somthing to play with (did not intend for him to eat it). i was gone maybe 5 minuts tops and all that was left was a few lil legs and half a head, it was crazy.

lmao thats possibly the best description of a freshwater shrimp iv ever heard

it really depends on the personality of your fish and your shrimp.

I had a few last a really long time until my female evil decided to kill all but one. And he lasted for a good few months after that, he's fight the females off at dinner time. But it's only a 5 gallon, my friend who has a 10 has never had her bettas attack the shrimp

Typically, a ghost shrimp is a tasting, moving snack. Rarely, I've heard of the shrimp bothering sluggish, passive bettas, but usually the betta is the aggressor. Bettas are a solitary species for the most part, and do best without any tankmates, especially of the edible kind. ;)
