Well i finally decided to buy the ghost shrimp, and i bought one for each of my bettas. Which equaled 4 shrimp, and to tell you the truth they didnt last. lol The female attacked the shrimp and tore out the plant i have in her tank in the process. Shrimp number one was engulfed completely. Then my red male betta messed around with his shrimp for a little while and finally ate it, leaving the shrimp's feelers. There goes shrimp number 2. Im not sure how shrimp number three died but my blue male is having a go at it. Shrimp number 3 gone. BUT i have good news, my picky eating crowntail has not found the shrimp interesting, so shrimp number 4 has survived and is enjoying the food that falls to the bottom! Hurray!! so the probability of betta v.s shrimp was 3 out of 4 failures. lol
I have had it both ways. Not only does it depend on the Betta, it depends on what kind of mood he or she is in that day. Got one in my 5 gallon with a male, he has lasted for over 2 weeks now. I gotta say this particular shrimp is VERY good at hiding though. Thought he was gone a few days ago, lo and behold, there he is after a water change this weekend! I tried looking for him for several days before that with no luck. But I will agree, its just a matter of time until the Betta thinks " Hmmm, wonder what he tastes like? "
