Hi all,

I have a ghost knife fish and he is about 4 inches long so far. I'm getting a 75 gallon tank within the week and i was wondering if anyone has had experience with larger knife fish, as i'm concerned about stocking. He pretty much stays to himself but seems to be getting more aggressive as he gets bigger, obviously.

I've heard just nothing thats smaller than his mouth? I really wanted to do 2 large groups of cories and some schooling fish, but the more I think about how big he may grow cories may get scared

I know its another annoying stocking question but I wanna do it right, I may have to find a new home for him if he limits my visions for this tank. He really is such a good fish though.

Thanks in advance you guys.

That is odd, what are you feeding him. Mine could never be more peaceful, for schooling fish, i did rainbowfish. They are larger and more colorful. I have fed mine live feeders before but stick to bloodworms. He wont attack any fish, just eat the ones who fit in his mouth. They like a good hiding place as well as dim lighting because they are nocturnal

My bgk has also been very timid. Its about 5 inches or so. have him in a 125gal with 5 clown loaches, 1 bn pleco, 1 clown pleco, 6 skirt tetra. Have not had a problem at all and i have had him for a year or so! Eats blood worms out of my hand also. :good:

BGK, are timid fish, though the 75 and the 125 is small in my opnion, my buddy has his in a 350 with a clown knife, the are beautiful fish

Corys will be fine with the knife fish. But its already been said that the tank is too small, he will never get to a decent size in a small tank so u so you needn't worry, you will be taking him back to the shop from out growing your tank before he gets big enough to eat any of his tank mates!

Thank you :) However, I've already taken him back to the shop. Didn't want to give it a bad life in too small of a tank.. but I couldn't help thinking someone will buy him and have a smaller tank than me and be way undereducated  I felt really bad.

IMO, i think most knife fish should only be in a more of a hobbyist shop, our petsmart, carries black ghost, the go pretty fast, that is one my dream fish, when i am out on my own

Aw you neednt have done that so soon, they grow very slowly. As long as you do the right thing when its time for him to move on to a bigger home you may have been okay for a couple of years. Respect your choice tho, very sensible decision! African brown knives stay relatively small so may be a suitable alternative if you like knives! They are meant to be piscivores but i doubt they could eat anything but the smallest of tetras or fry, ive got one, awesome fish! they do like their caves tho!
