Ghent_3rd's S. American Biotope Journal

I'm not familiar with the UK tank kits, what's the wattage in the Rio 180?

I actually like the combination between sand and pebbles, it looks very good. Your wood and slate are arranged well too. What other plants do you plan besides Amazon swords. There must be other plants from the Amazon? I work more with SE Asia species.

I'm not sure what type of sword they are, I am going to mail order some more plants as I can't get much else apart from swords round here.

I have cheated a bit and added some java fern to my bogwood and onto a rock, I know it isn't South American but it looks so cool!! :D :D

Ok so tank is looking pretty good now and will post somepics later today but my swords look to be struggling a bit??

They are getting brown patches on the leaves despite laterite, complete substrate and CO2 all being used. I think I am going to add loads of root tabs tonight in a bid to keep the swords going.

Any other ideas are welcome.

60W standard, you can get them with double lighting bars though so that puts them up to 120W if your pockets are deep enough.

Got a bit of an issue with poorly amazon swords and hairline algae at the minute but will be upgrading to 90 watts over the weekend and my Seachem products are also here so hopefully should see an improvement in the next 2 weeks or so!!

I'll wait till I have remedyed the plant problems before posting any more pics.

The fish are looking really great though!! Hopefully going to pick up Bulldog Plec and L-52 over the next 7-10 days from LFS!!! :hyper: :hyper:

Just doing monster water change and completed a bit of aquatic gardening, the fertilisation starts here!!!

Hopefully the next 10-14 days should tell me if I am going to have a successful time with these plants or not.

Got the CO2 going pretty well now, going to change the mixture tomorrow possibly to get it going really well, alos adding new light to take me to the heaven that is 2 WPG. Fingers crossed for me everyone!!!

Any chance you have new current updated pics for the entire tank?

Sorry, old thread, though it would be nice to see updated pictures from this setup.

Had 2 house moves since this thread and a 3rd planned for early December so will be setting up the Rio 180 again I think. Won't be planted though as my job takes up A LOT of my time. Here's my latest thread that highlights the options that I have for my new tank.
