Hello
How do I get the water right for my new betta?
I do have a cylced tank set up can I take some water from this and new water to mix in the new tank?
I am getting a tester kit to test the water
What should the readings be before i put the new betta in?
Should I be doing small water changes each day?

Id be greatful for any advice as I want to start off on the right foot, and want to give my betta a long heathly life

Also my tank is 17inches long.
What sort of lighter if any do ppl use?

Thanks alot

We'd need to know really the volume of the tank.

Are you just thinking of the betta in there.

The beneficial bacteria that eat waste live in the filter media and substrate (gravel/sand). If you aren't having a fitler then you'll have to use frequent water changes to keep the levels safe.

Tell us a little more about your set up and we can help even more.

:)

Hi there
The tanks 17inches long-10inches high-10inches wide

Holds between 6-7 gallons.
Im planning on putting in a heater but no filter as water changes wont be a problem.

Hope this helps

OK,

What you'll need to do then is just add declorinator. No need to worry about already cycled water.

You'll need to do water changes at least every week.

Make sure water is at correct temp first and perhaps you may consider a little indian almond leaf or blackwater to soften the water for him.

Thanks for your reply.
I was thinking of getting a declorinator and my dad has some almond leafs im sure he would give me some.Iv already posted a separte post about almond leaves but was wondering since you suggested it .Should I just put one in for a few days after I get him?
thansk

thanks alot.
Still looking around for a betta at the moment but have found someone how can get me a copper/gold crowntail. Just waiting to see how much he will cost

I tried cycling with my fist betta setup (In a 20 G) and Found fishless cyclign to be impossible. I've found that a weekly change of water for the first couple months usually does it. In a 6-7 gallon you'll have to change it too often to worry about cycling.
