For driftwood and rocks, can I simply get my own from the wetlands near my house and then bath them in saltwater for a fortnight before placing in my tank and doing a fishless cycle??

Does it have to be a particular kind of wood or a nice piece from either a dead tree or something??

thanks

just give them a good scrub down then soak them, change the water every day until it comes clear (it'll go brown from the tannines)

be careful when selecting wood and rocks, there's a pinned topic for each of them telling you what you can and can't use so hunt them out.

if your sure they're safe and clean then you can just add them to the tank doesn't matter if it's before, during or after your cycle so you can get started on that straight away :good:

really looking forward to seeing what you do with the new tank!

I'd consider putting them in a big pot of water and boiling them to make sure any bacteria or parasites or other bad things are killed before you put them in your tank.
