Getting My First Betta Tank Tomorrow

By the way be very careful when choosing a cave for your betta because if it has any rough edges on it the betta will rip his fins on it. I know because I learned the hard way when I put this cave in that had some rough edges on it and it tore his fins up to pieces because he loved it so much and would swim closley around it while he went into the openings it.

Only a silk plant or a pot would be fine. Or maybe you can get one of those plastic cups and bury half of it in gravel or I've seen some people tank where they got one of those ceramic coffee cups that say for example I love NY or something and they buried half of it in gravel and the betta seem to love it.

I use plastic plants in my bettas' bowls.
Never in my 8+ months in practice have I had any problems at all.
Never ripped, tore or even damaged a fin.

Well I think it all dependson what kind of fake plant and how much the betta likes it and how much room it has to get away from it or swim around it.

I've had bad experiances with fake plants ripping fins, plastic ones that is. I've had snail infestations from live plants too.

Seing as luke has a plant and is asking about a cave,

Yes he'll be fine without one. He can veg out round the plant you have. I'd use one of the small plantpots you can get from B&Q. Anyone with an ounce of sense can have a good feel round and see if there is any sharp bits!

If there is you can use sand paper. And remeber, if it has a hole, either bury that in the gravel, or fill it with silicone.

Remember to soak it for a couple of hours first!

Thanks everyone, appreciate everyones replies, will help me getting the right stuff, all i need now is some money for the heater, and the actually betta, so its going to be over a week i recon, but i'll be getting asap.
Thanks!

Not sure what betta i am getting, i'll see what my LFS has, it doesnt have many of them so i am kinda stuck, but i'll get which looks best and which has largest fins. But the ones in the store arent exactly flared, so i can't tell if they are larged finned, as these bettas are in tanks with other fish :look: , so i am not exactly sure what to do, i might go on and have a word with them, or phone them up.

Rite, my mind is at rest now, and i'll use the circle bit instead, but once its broken out can you place it back on?
Thank you.

No, but when I had a heater in mine I found I had to rip the circle all the way out anyway to get the plug through :dunno: You can try and only rip three of the platic things holding it in, but you might have trouble getting the plug through.
