We got a 'pair' of gold rams on saturday and they seem to have settled well both are eating and checking out the other occupants with no problems, however they are acting 'odd' to each other as if they maybe both males? lfs seems very knowledgable and pointed out the sexing of each ram that he caught, so its just a question of if they are fighting or
If anyone could advise of the mating behaviour it would help.

Thanks in advance.
:fish: :fish:

MMMMMM still no takers, thats odd, i thought this is where you came for help :/

That is a little harsh.........whilst a few people may have looked at your problem, you will find that not all of them will know the answer.

Whilst it is good to get advice.........bad or poor advice, even the most well intentioned bad or poor advice will do you no good.

good luck though.....

Yeah, your right of course and i apologise, its just you see other issues getting good answers and advice, you feel a little left out, so sorry for my comments and hope that someone will answer soon.

it all depends on what they are doing......u cant chose a pair they choose each other :good:

what are they doing? flirting genrally consists of face to face lip lock.......face to tail waving of the body...
chasing each other around the tank,,,,,,,almost looks like there fighting,,,,,,,the best thing to do if you really want a pair is to have around 6 juvinilles and leave them for a while to see if any compatable pairs form...as i said its diff to just come home with a male n female n exspect them to be happy together much like humans where you chose your partner<almost all people>

a more detailed discription of what exsactly is happening would help.....and time is a good factor as youve only had them a few days :good:

Thanks for the reply Nelly, what i meant by 'pair' is that i got 2 rams we think are male and female, not that they were sold as a mating pair.
Having said that what you discribe is very close as to what is happening: face to face, one bumping the other one backwards, side by side nose to tail skirmishing, at the moment it doesn't look too agressive so wasn't sure if it was scrapping or loving!!

sounds loving but you never know.....wait and see for at least a month or two :good:
anyhow rams are ok to keep together as are most drawf cichlids......as long as tanks big enough of course :shifty:
