Good evening all,

I just wondered if you already have a tank well up and running could you use ornaments (from current tank) and anything else to help cycle a new tank? Does it take as long as the normal cycle or if I used some of the water from my current tank into a new one would this really speed things up?

Cheers

ornaments would not do a thing,
you have a fully matured tank? setting up a new tank, get the new filter and use about 1/3 of the media from you matured tank, and some of the water, this is known as seeding from the exsiting tank, how big a tank are we talking and the exsisting tank size, filter sizes and media?

Hi Nelly, my existing tank is about 2ft long and its 54L (Juwel Rekord 60) and the filter is the one that comes with that these are the sponges

.

I am thinking of getting a much bigger tank probably double that so 4ft 120L.

mines 39 inches and 120l. so it has a bit more height to it and depth, so it takes up less room. dont buy the juwel pads tho, really costly, go to a fish shop and you can buy, 15 inch buy 15inch lumps of the blue stuff, the same thickness and then u can just cut it. same with the floss, 5m rolls for a few quid on ebay. saves you a bundle.

Good tips there buddy. Thankyou

EDIT: Do you have a link on ebay for the floss :)

hey no problem, saves you money its got to be worth it.

ok so when you get the tank, use a third of the sponges in the new filter and have a good squeeze in a cup of the other sponges tipping this into the new filters sponges and use the water from the old filter in the new filter, this should seed the new filter, add just a couple of fish, water changing frequently first of

"Remembrance Day
The second Sunday of November is Remembrance Sunday, also known as Remembrance Day.
At 11am men, women and children all across Britain hold a two minute silence to remember the millions who have died in war.

The silence is usually observed at war memorials, religious services and shopping centres throughout the country"

Sorry OP, way off topic here, but wanted to say that this Remembrance Day sounds like a very nice tradition! Here in the U.S., we have days set aside, too, Memorial Day and Veteran's Day. But by everyone observing the silence at the same time across the whole country must make it really meaningful.

So if I do this will I not have to do a cycle at all?

Just bumping this up a bit. As we are looking to get another tank very soon! Just wanted a rough length of time it would take to cycle a new tank? We already have a tank that has been running for one and a half years.
