Getting A New Fish?

I've had a ten gallon tank for a few months now. My molly just recently passed away a few days ago and I'm trying to decide which new fish to get. There are currently four zebra danios and one albino cory catfish in there. I was thinking either a betta OR one or two dalmatian mollies.. My question is whether these fish are okay? Would the danios hurt the betta? Is that enough room for a betta? Are two mollies too much? I know one molly fits and gets along fine, but what about two so they're not lonely? Also, any other fish suggestions are welcome. Thanks guys. :)

I think you should sort out your current stocking before thinking about adding anymore fish! Danios should be in tank of around 4ft and the cory should be in a group of at least 6.

Do NOT get a betta it will probably kill the other fish. You have to keep them seperate

I've heard of bettas with shoaling fish without any problems apart from the shoalers fin nipping the betta tbh... BUT I wouldn't recommend it.

PLEASE sort out your current stocking. +1 on the danios needing a longer tank. They're fast, agile swimmers, who need to be in shoals of 6 or more in a long tank. +1 also for the cories needing 6+, so I'd suggest rehoming that too.

I know it seems horrible people on here telling you to get rid of your pets, but (like you?) we just want what's best for them. I've had my 10 gallon up and running for months, and I did a lot of research into the types of fish I could have. You can ALWAYS see something in my tank, and I have the most wonderfully different coloured guppies :D If you like platies and mollies, they're fine in a 10G, but make sure you get your sexing right, otherwise you'll end up with LOADS :p I don't know what the aggression is like with mollies and platies, but if you went for all males, I'm not sure if you need 3+ to spread aggression (I know guppies are like that, so I'm kinda tarring all live bearer males with the same brush lol... can anyone with more experience clarify?). but you could have, say, 4 mollies, and 4 platies in a 10g, so long as your tank is cycled.

ok I'm waffling now and probably not making any sense... :p

No offense but I completely disagree. With you. Sure, some bettas are complete maniacs and will kill any fish they see, but the majority of them can safely live happily with any other compatible fish, like short finned non colorful fish. I safely keep one of my bettas with some endlers, and he has never, never ever showed agression to the other fish. :good: and for the real question, I think you should sort out your stocking first, then you can go to the beginners section and there is a thread that has a list of fish suitable for a 10 gallon tank :good:
