getting a new cage for my budgie

That is one healty happy looking bird. I love that its white.
Seeing that makes me miss my last one. It was an english parakeet, you can see by the picture it's a bit larger than a regular parakeet. He's been bred 4 times and had several white babies but I sold them to the local pet store.
I see yours is out of the cage, it must just love to be out playing. It looks young, from the picture I can't see above it's beek, is it a male or female? and how old?

This male at the time of the picture is 5 years old, bought him as a baby, the little femail is very old, don't know haw many years, she never did bread with him, I think she was too old. She ended up dieing of old age a few months after this picture. Please excuse the mess of th e2nd pic, I was still single at this time and was working 10 hour days in construction (electrician). But you can see they had a lot of room to fly and they used every bit (they are on the right in front of the window).
I had to leave him back in Michigan, when i moved to Hawaii they wanted to quarenteen him for 6 months and I thought that was creul and terrible so I gave him to a friend.

im not sure if he's male or female. i say he's a male cos thats what the petshop person said he was. if he was a female though i would probably still continue to call him a he cos thats what he has always been to me. his cere is pinkish btw. it was blue/purple when we got him.
he turned three very recently.
and yes he loves being out of the cage and socialising :D . when he wants to go back in his cage he just flies back in :D
i love him so much

I'm not sure on terms, not sure what the cere is. If that's the part above the beak where his nose is then it's probably a female. The part around the nose is pinkish when they're young, under a year, then it should turn. A female will be pinkish but should turn very white when she's in heat and a males will be blue all the time. You can see that on the pictures of my birds. After the female is done being in heat for her first time her beak should turn more red than pink andmay times there will be some white on the outside edges. I've noticed that each time a female comes out of heat there'll be a little more white. Once the eye changes so that you can see the pupil (look at my picture to see), then the part around the nose should be blue if it's a male.

Male or female is not what matters, whats important is that the bird gets a lotta love and attention like yours does.
What I said about a perch in the earlier post, it's not important if your letting it out of the cage to play. I was saying that cause I've seen to many parakeets that never get to leave their cage and that's cruel, but you don't do that.
It really makes me happy :D to see a bird getting treated like yours, no wonder your bird looks so healthy, it's happy :)

Do you ever give your bird fruit? I've always been told you should but none of mine ever did, I'm just curious if anyone actually got their budgie to eat some.

I'm not trying to be a "know it all", it's just that I've bred and hand fed hundreds of parakeets. I've raised several as pets. I used to own a pet shop (with a partner) back in the 80's and we just carried birds and fish. I know a bit about all parrots, but mainly parakeets, they are my favorite. I know a lot more about birds than fish, I didn't know that till I joined this forum, then I realized how little I knew about fish, I musta always been lucky, but as far as birds go I had people teach me, no one taught me about fish, I'm self learned (or unlearned).

Sorry to go on and on

thankyou for your kind words :D
i also think it is very cruel to not let a bird out of its cage once in a while.

yes the cere is the bit above the beak, the nose part. ah well, even if he is a girl he's still a dude to me! :p

i give him fruit sometimes. i dont think its a good idea to give budgies too much fruit as it can cause diarrhea. Twitty loves grapes and pear :D
vegetables are also good. Twitty loves cabbage, spinich, broccoli and carrot (he prefers the carrot grated though :D )

also thought i would explain his odd name lol!
he was originally called Tweety (most imaginative name ever  ) but when we taught him to say it he couldnt pronounce it properly and said Twitty instead

twitty, that's so kewl, I like that better than tweety :D
That's the first time I heard of a female talking, that's great
If you got a female to talk, you must really give her a lot of attention and she must love you a lot

i like it better than tweety too! tweety's a crap name lol
yep s/he gets LOTS of attention! he thrives on it lol
sometimes i think he reckons he's a person. he just loves being around people and showing off and being stupid :p
he loves his music too! dances to music all the time. he particularly likes this old metal band (u might have heard of 'em) called Budgie which is so cute :D

I actually did hear of Budgie, but never heard their music.
When I was getting some fish the other day I was looking at the parakeets, saw one i wanted, thought about getting it, then my wife reminded me that we have 2 cats. I never thought about that when we got the cats, that I can't have a bird. I've always had a parakeet, for 20 years, now I can't. I guess it's for the best, they need a lot of attention and with my baby and job I've got no time.
I gotta showoff my baby now, here's a picture of her
