Well the title says it all.

So far im planning on getting a Eheim professionel 3 filter 2080.
If you think any product is better for the job, please let me know.

Also, thinking of getting 2 100W heating cables to have in the gravel.
I dont know which to get, I dont want to get Rena cords, they seem to have some faults.

It's 200x60x60cm or 78.7x 23.6 inches.

If you look at the aquarium at the buttom left you'd see what i'm getting.

I'm selling my 312 liters tank in order to afford this.

Also, advice in terms of convincing my parents to get this is more then welcome;)

Fluval FX5 and another filter of your choice. Always best to have two or more filters on a bigger tank incase one breaks down.

I would buy heaters not cables if it were me. Again buying 2 heaters is better incase one dies.

Is the Eheim unreliable, and is it common for filters to break down after a while?

And yeah, i have been informed cables arn't really good, and i'll get 2 heaters.
But how powerfull in terms of Watts should they be?

Nope Eheim are very reliable ... its just the the Fluval FX5 was made for large tanks. You are better to OVER filter than to under.

two 300 Watt heaters will do the job easily.

filters do break, and you can gaurentee when they do break its when the shopsw are closed or when you can`t afford the parts/ new filter

the fluval fx 5 is aparently the best choice for large tanks

My tank's a little bit smaller than yours, but I'm using the Ehiem Pro 3 and think it's fantastic. The only thing that can be slightly troublesome is if, for whatever reason, generally during filter maintainace, you get an big air pocket in one of the two inlet tubes, then it can be a bit difficult to shift. I solved this by adding a couple of the eheim taps into each tube, the ones that let you unscrew with both siders locked, and then just let which evber side is blocked with air run into a bucket for a second, or even less. Apart from that, they are great, and incredibly quiet as well.

In my tank, I also added a Fluid Bed Filter and large UV filter as well. With something that size, you'll have plenty of space under the tank to put in what ever filter system you feel like.

What I would say is that it's wize to make your system as maintiance free as possible. Things which are easy with small tanks, like water changes, or cleaning the gravel, need to be planned properly BEFORE you build the tank up.
