I just set up a 55g tank and now my room smells like a pet store. Is there a way to get rid of it besides air fresheners? I opened the lid and it does smell in the water. Any suggestions?

Is there like a special carbon that I could change in the filter to get rid of the smell or anything? Does it just take time for the tank to establish and then the smell disappears? Thanks for any help

The smell is all part and parcel of fish keeping im afraid, especially in the beginning. It will gradually fade as your tank matures. Are you fishless cycling you tank? If not then please do. Follow the add & wait method in the link in my signature.

:good:

It will gradually fade as your nose gets use to it,.......................................... no, only joking

The extensive use of air fresheners (I don't use any aerosol's in my room) in a room with a fish tank is a bad idea.
If you look at the packet of the air freshener, it will probably say that its harmful to aquatic life (though they don't always say this),
