I know this is an obvious question, but how long does it take a platy to give birth to its babies after becoming pregnant? My platy Polly has been very fat for at least a month and a half, but I still see no babies. I can’t check to see if there is a gravid spot because she is a tuxedo platy and has he little black tux right in the way of where the spot would be. She does not appear to be as square as most people say they get right before birth, but she is really round and almost looks like she’s stretching her skin to its limit. Thanks for any help.

Its exciting and tense waiting and looking for the fry, which should be here by now.
A month and a half is far too long...
Sure shes not a fatty Platty!!! :D
It norm takes about 30 days. It sounds like it should be really soon. Maybe she doesnt feel comfortable with dropping er fry yet.. I know that sounds silly, but thats all i think it could be.

GOOD THINGS COME TO THOSE WHO WAIT...

I dont think she preg at all! you said shes not sqare right well as soon as the platty, guppy, molly is preg they get sqare looking! i think shes just fat! but tell me if i am rong when she has babys or some one no's more than me!

they accually get "square" a day or so before they drop the fry. i have heard that if the temp in the tank is low that it will take longer for the fry to develop and for them to have them, but have never personally had a low temp tank. so if your tanks temp is low than it could just be taking her longer. sorry if that was confusing. :/ hope it helps and keep us updated!

the temp has to be a little harmer than normal. i have a pregnant molly in a 5 gallon tank and i raised the temp to 78degrees instead of 76 degrees. it worked last time wiht my guppy and i got 60 fry from that.
