I decided it would be fun to try growing some actual tea plants (real tea, Camellia sinensis) hydroponically in my hillstream aquarium. I found a deal on Amazon, six seeds for ten bucks. They came in today, and I am doing some reading about how to germinate them. Oy. I think it would be easier and faster to just take my kayak to India and take a few cuttings.

Fortunately, there are a few sellers on ebay and etsy that sell tea seedlings. So after these seeds fail to germinate, I'll have a plan b.

I want to follow your progress on that

Well, OK. Right now, they're soaking in a glass of water. If I'm lucky, got good seeds, and do everything exactly right (all of which are fairly unlikely), then in two months I might have a tea sprout.

Saved me $10. Thank you. If I find anything that works and any seeds I'll post it.
Happy to help! I'll be ordering some tea seedlings off etsy once it warms up a bit. I'd rather let someone else do the hard part. 😜

Looks like I got bad seeds. After 24 hours they're still floating, which indicates non-viable seeds. I don't think I'll bother them anymore. Oh well. Cost me $10 to find out.
You might want to try checking out Baker Creek Seeds. They sell heirloom seeds and I *think* they have tea seeds. I can't remember. But I've had amazing luck getting their seeds to grow with no issues.

Even tea seeds? They are notoriously difficult to sprout. That's why almost all teas grown today are from cuttings.
