hi all....

bit of advice please! i was sold a pair of geophagus surinamensis by my lfs around 3wks ago, all was fine till a couple of days ago when one suddenly started harrasing the other one..my asumption being the one being "harrased" was the female!
my tank is 5ft long and this goes from one end to the other continually!!! my next move is back to the lfs with said fish in tow as its not nice to watch!

any advice apart from plan "A"?

regards

john

You need more than two to spread aggression between Geophagus species unless they are an established breeding pair, id recomend a group of 5 to start with and then return any spare fish if a pair forms.

cheers cfc......

in the end i opted for plan "A"... but kept the female.. who knows she may colour back up! i think the bloke who sold them was as thick as the proverbial two short one`s.

its a lesson learnt for me........never buy on impulse!!

thanx again!

These are nice fish. I'd take CFC's advice and get 5 or 6 of them and let them form the pair. With a compatible pair you get all thenatural behavior with little aggression between them.

i know what you mean....i was well impressed with them while all was going well! i told the guy in the shop about the advice i had recieved but he said he did!nt have the "facilities" to swap and exchange fish like that!

since i`ve moved the male out things seem to have settled down ,although the female is carrying some war wounds...i would loved to have had a tank full of them but its gonna be a solitary life for her for now! and given the choice she would opt for that.....me thinks!!!

cheers guys
