My pc is messing about at the moment so the pic keeps moving about but that looks like a Geophagus Winemilleri to me.

Ive also read about HITH being caused by using carbon in your filters or the dust from the carbon, not sure how true that is or whether it applies to your situation or not.

Actually on a second look it does have slight differences in some of the fins and body shape, may also be the resonthe fish hasnt coloured up as much.

I had heard that carbon can encourage hith but in my case cant be the problem as i dont use carbon in either of the filters I run. I tried the soaking in vitamins to no success so have now gone down the route of metronidazole. Am hoping that works as lowering nitrates and pretty much anything else hasnt worked, so fingers crossed.

It does look like a red head tapajos, although I am far from great and identifying fish. How many have you got? Usually they do colour up slightly more but may be that if you have more than 1 male its the less dominant one. I will try to upload a photo of mine over next few days so you can compair.

I started off with 2 (I know they are meant to be kept in groups) however one died in a surface agitation incident :(

What was the surface agitation incident? Are you thinking of getting some more. As I have quoted above on someone elses post I am not to sure now as the body shape does seem slightly different and lower fins appear different to mine (dont know what there called) may also be the reason for difference in colour.

Could you post a pic of one of yours? The incident was 2 of my filters (i now have 3) stopped during the night which caused stagnant water and one of my geos perished. At the moment, no. I'll probably look at rehoming the geo more likely as he's chasing my 4 baby keyhole cichlids at every chance.

I am not entirely sure how to post a photo but will try and have a go now.
