I have an Ilyodon xantuses with a damaged eye, possibly as a result of the rather exuberant feeding time in my tank, where the Ilyodons in particular will try to compete with the catfish for the algae wafers - so is there a general medication that can be used to reduce the likelyhood of the damage leading to a further infection (in the UK, so just meds available here)? There are such products as Protozin and Myxazin on the market; should I protect with this stuff or just leave it to heal on its own? I don't want to add to the water unless it is absolutely necessary....

Fresh water is the best thing for healing wounds. As long as it isn't a recently cycled tank, 25% to 50% water changes daily, tap water with no dechlor. Add dechlor 10 minutes after adding the water, let the little bit of disinfectant added to tap water help keep the stray bacteria level down.
