I have a very burpy pangasius catfish, He keeps swimming to the top and expelling air.

I have tried treating him with a swimbladder medicine but he is still burping.

Any idea

Do u mean he is swimming to the surface, taking a gulp of air then spitting it back out ? Is he still swimming/behaving normally ?

he swims to the top and then you can here an audible noise of him expelling the air. He also has bubbles of air coming out his gills quite often under the water as well.

All the rest of the fish in the tank are fine i have a similar sized pangasius in the tank with him and he is also fine.

How often does he do this ?

He's probably just filling up his swim bladder, all fish do this every so often.

He is doing it every two minutes or so.

He looks quite bloated though.

Hmmm if hes doing it constantly then that does sound like a swim bladder problem, what did u treat it with ?

As far as i know, swim bladder problems are quite hard to cure

I used the whole course but as its such a big tank it didnt last that long (3 treatments) would it be better to keep treating him?

Hello all

Ive still got problems with this pangasias. He has bloated up again and is still expelling air at the top of the tank.
I have continued the treatment but he is still burping away.

I have uploaded a picture to show how bloated his stomach is and a short video which you can just about hear him burping. You will have to turn your sound up to hear it though. I tried to make it as small as possible but it will take a couple of minutes to download on a 56k modem.

What is he fed ? resson I ask is, sometimes fish can be hogs at feeding time. In most cases they just gulp, gulp, at the surface for the food.
In the process the fish could be gulping mouth fulls of air which them need to be let out. This is just a stipulation.
Personaly I have never had a fish do that so I couldn't suggest any meds or treatment methods.

Maybe give him some X-Lax.... Rotflol or pepto.
or have him hold his breath and count to ten. ?? Works for Hick-ups.

And in NO way am I making fun of the sittuation and DO hope he gets better. so no hate mail please.
