Just Tried plugging the tube into the connector and one of the pins pushed back into the tube and some 'gas' blew into my face, could this be a problem?

Not unless you know how to react with an inert substance. It would only be a problem if you were in a room full of it as being inert you'd suffocate. Otherwise your fine. Actually a little lucky as that can cause the glass to shatter.

Its a common belief that they are filled with flourine gas, blurgggh that will kill you.

Its just the powder on the inside of the glass that glows, or flouresses. Hence flouressant. You'll be fine. :good:

Cool cheers,

Luckily it was only a 14" tube, will set up a 4ft light system up instead =D
