I've heard of people using garlic to induyce appetite and help the immune system on fish What kind of garlic do they use.

I don't know, but I keep hearing about it too. So I decided today to get some and I got Garlic Guard by Seachem...Is this a decent one anyone know?

it is all the same stuff. Look on the back. The one with the least added ingredients would be the best. U wont want to use this as a staple food but rather when u are trying to geta cetain fish to eat. It is best to soak food in a multivitamin if it readily eats

I use garlic extream, it is really just pure garlic extract. One drop per 25 gallons. Do not over use, it is very strong. If you are putting it on the food, one drop will do the trick. If the fish is just not eating, thats when you would want to add it in a high flow area directly in the water.

I use a garlic Kent garlic Extract for any fish showing signs of whitspot and i have friends who mash up cloves of real garlic for their fish and soak their food in it for an hour before feeding.

real garlic mashed up is the strongest. It is good for fish who dont like to eat frozen food like new lions.

I get pre-chopped garlic from the food store just make sure it is in water not oil . I mix it in with the food about three times a week just to keep the fish healthy. My tangs eat it before they eat the fish food . it is also a good deterrant for ick .

so is 100% safe to use fresh garlic cloves chopped up (i dont want to kill my fish)

You might want to make sure its organic garlic, or grow your own.

i tried it and had great results, all of my fish ate it diced and has checked to see what im feeding them every time i walk by.

one question, how and why does garlic help the fish? does it giv it a higer immune system or the chemicals give the fish brighter colors or fight diseises, for instance ich, it has helped with mine or was i just lucky?

shh. dont disturb the garlic gods or they will stop helping everyones fish! Thats a relly good question. I am surprised that no one has asked this yet. I would like to know too. It does help the immune system but im not exactly sure how.

I like to chop up the garlic cloves and sautee them in Olive oil over medium heat in a preheated Iron skillet, thenn stuff the fish with it, wrap in aluminum foil and cook over a hardwood fire, but thats just me. :dunno:
