6 years doesn't make it a classic but it was a great GTA, it was pretty much the GTA I had been waiting for since GTA 1, However they didn't follow the cities properly!

They made Liberty City (GTA3) then they made Vice City (GTA3+1?) Then they made San Adreas (GTA3+2?), San Adreas should of been the second one since they used the same cities... ah the good old days of GTA 1... GOURANGA Bonus :D! then GTAIV the biggest gaming disappointment since Shadow of Chernobyl.

What does make it a classic then? The fact that it is the third biggest selling game of all time.

I'd definately count it as a classic, by far the greatest GTA from all generations.
GTA4 is also an amazing game. Its was so built up it was ridiculous, then people suddenly thought bad of it. In reality it is phenomenal. The graphics, physics, story and sheer size of the game are all breathtaking. The only disapointing element would be the multiplayer.

Well I guess we can call Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 a classic already, considering it's sold a hell u'va lot of copies and it's got a massive world wide fan base or even Warcraft because of the amount of subscribers. To me a classic is a game which pioneered the way through for other games to follow in suit or perhaps even the first of its kind on a specific console.

For example a few games like Golden eye really set the standard for FPS, GTA1 set the standard for the crime orientated games, even something like Robocop for the ZX81, perhaps even . San Adreas was just another one of those Vice City or Liberty city grand theft autos just able to fly more planes and a bigger game map. GTA IV was actually a step backwards with the restrictions of planes, the game didn't have breathtaking physics as I was still able to recreate events from previous GTAs which were so unrealistic. The game got cold and fast, the game at points got so ludicrously annoying it was almost enticing you to cheat. Same with the whole Lance Vance Level on Vice city it was almost impossible to cheat because the game was too poorly designed to fight indoors, it tried to turn the game into an FPS and failed harder than the hottie or the nottie.

I'm with Josh. Good doesn't make a classic. Just because San Andreas was a good game that doesn't make it classic.

Now lemmings... Or worms...

Okay so maybe going off sales isn't a good thing.
But Sanandreas isn't just good, its amazing.

What did you guys think of Pokemon when it was originally released for the Gameboy?

James.

I had the original pokemon on Gameboy (the blue one) but thats not something i admit to often...

As for classic PS1 - it has to be Wipeout (now availble in HD), FF VII (also on The Store) and Gran Turismo - worth picking up on PSP as its pretty similar to GT2...

Give it another 5 years and I can see San Andreas being considered a gaming classic but truth be told I think it's still too current to be classic.

Have to agree with FFVII. When that came out it completely redefined the genre. By today's standards it's awful but at the time it was very impressive.

There's too much choice

Sonic (dreamcast version)
Original mario
Another vote for Duck hunt
Micro machines
Original Resident evil
Monkey Island
Streets of rage
Street fighter
Original GTA for sure!
TOCA cant be missed out of course

I could go on forever..........

Did anyone play Kane?

Omg Lemmings... Worms I'm not so fond of anymore, I use to play Worms united and reinforcements a lot but that phased away when I was young, then my friends about 10 years later found it amazing and constantly get hard over it. Lemmings though is always a challenge! Mainly because the graphics are so pix-elated it's hard to know what's going on!

Monkey Island... DEFINITELY

Haha Micro machines was awesome but I wouldn't say a classic it didn't really have any staying power, awesome racing around someone's kitchen around their breakfast bowl and into their cup of tea!

I've always been a fan of monkey island. Maniac mansion, one of the first of it's kind (course there were adventure games with pictures before but not in the same way as maniac mansion)

Worms was great on 2 player. On your own it got old fairly quick.
