At one of my LFS they sell game fish. Pike, Muskie, Large Mouth Bass, and Trout.
Is this illigal?

only if they don't have a licence.
ask them
if they are unresponsive or tell you it's none of your business
contact your local council (govenment) :D

yea... i was going to buy a bass but it was "agressive" so i might hold off on pirana and get some game fish for my 55 :). Then once their big enough i could set them loose in the lake down the street.

same here :S

if there is a possibility that the fish is beyond you, leave it alone. releasing fish into the wild is cruel. should not get a fish just cause it is "cute" "pretty colored" or any of the other lame excuses. know what you are getting into first. if it is too much for you then just admire them when you see them.

Now that is definitely illegal. My LFS sells Pike though I'm not sure what species or if it's considered a game fish but then this is also likely a state or local law that can vary place to place. Releasing pet fish is against federal and most state laws.

well i didnt know releasing was illigal....
i dont know any of the laws for fish or anything
thanks for telling me it was illigal to release fish and ill get pirana insted.

now you all made me feel like a bad person for not knowing :(

Throw a hook in and catch dinner

I dont know if I would keep a fish like that in a tank.
But we have a ~5000 l pond that I want to stock with bass, and then have some freash fish every now and then.
But it freezes solid during the winter and I would have nowhere to put them overwinter.

not sure about that buts its very interesting... I would bring it up to your congress/ govt

If you lfs sells Game fish, they are for people who have ponds\private lanks which they would like to stock. All of those fish will get to big, and their food requirments are alot different then normal tropical fish.

You're not allowed to introduce new species of fish into any body of water unless you are the department of lands and forest.... at least around here you're not.
