This is probably the most stupid question ever uttered on this forum, but... when recommended tank sizes and such are quoted, are they generally using imperial gallons, or US ones?
It's quite significant - I just got a 160L tank, so in imperial it's 35G, but in USG it's 42!

It depends on whos doing the talking if its an American then it would be a US gallon. Overall on this forum I say if someones talking about gallons there talking about US gallons! :good:

US is generally what's implieed. The sooner we all start quoting in litres, the better (IMO).
Why liters why not gallons? It would be easier because thats what your country uses for people in the US it would be a big change. I personally don't like using liters and Celsius etc probably the main reason because I've really never used it.

The problem with quoting in gallons (and I still use gallons to measure tank sizes) is it can cause confusion (per the reason for this thread in the first place). If you quote in litres, there is no confusion as to the volume being stated. A litre is a litre. It weighs 1kg (near enough) and people are free to convert that any way they please.

precisely, not everyone uses them day to day, but atleast you would know how to convert them without ambiguity
