Fx6 Should I Use Pre Filter

got a new fx6 (not used yet)    should i use a pre filter ?

I have an fx6 but have no idea what a pre filter is!

No reason not to use a pre-filter.
 
 
(A pre-filter is just a sponge that sits over the intake.)

I never used one with my fx6 - just set it up and turned it on!

I considered using one for my guppy tank, but so far neither of them have gotten sucked into my filter yet...

Pre-filters are great to have for fry tanks or shrimp tanks.

Also works great for sand bottom tanks with messy fish that will kick up sand dust.  Protects the impeller, depending on how the filter is laid out.
