i am just settting up my first fx5 and am struggling with meida this is where i am at the moment
in order from left to right with the filter wool on top but dont know what to put in third basket. more of the same?

i intend to take some meida from a couple of other filters i have to help it on its way

im just about to go to the lfs and get some more sponge so was wondering if i should get anything else?

thanks

You could always use it as a spare, keep it empty to improve flow-rate.
Or stuff it with sponge as an expendable filter media compartment (so you have some to always cycle new tanks).

Or just stuff it with some filter floss for improved water clarity.

cool thanks for that ill probably go fo the expendable option... you never know whats round the corner

What is your stock? Cichlids isn't it? In that case I wouldn't use the filter floss or any of the pads. I find they get blocked very quickly.
What do you have in the centre basket in your picture?

it is cichlids yes.

so just use the media in the center of the baskets?

its eheim substrat pro

TBH I'm still trying to find the best method with this filter  It's annoying as my other filter was supplied with all media, told you the order to put it in, job done. The FX5 is annoying in this respect.
