I'll ask around my more nerdy friends, im doing a biology degree and my boyfriend is doing a chem degree so im sure we will find someone ;-) thanks for all the advice, im just glad it's 95% sorted now ;-)

Don't buy a second hand tank without seeing EVERYTHING working lol!

If your boyfriend is a man, there are several things he should own:

An axe
A hammer
A pair of pliers
Dirty pictures
A drill
A saw
A soldering iron
A copy of Miss Congeniality
A general toolkit.

One of those in the list should help you

Trying to think of what its called in the states. Stick tack?

Its like a putty, you can break a bit, mash it up in your hand and stick posters on walls, the mens bits back on a statue that you broke off etc. Consistency of gum? Here in Blighty its most famous brand is called blue tack, cos it is blue and tacky, but available in other colours and brands. Bit like how we all call vacuuming "hoovering" after what was one of the biggest brands in the country and dysoning just doesnt sound right.

Hello,

Buying a second hand tank with bits that don't work can often end up being the best bargains... True, having DIY skills or knowing someone who has, is required.

My best bargain was a 4' tank (which leaked) for £5. Fixed it for £4 and a little work!

Please ensure that the fuse holder is soldered up pronto.. twisted joint mains connections are a very bad idea!

Bodge99

I never see deals like that round here :(

I have done bodge jobs in the past, but not with mains flowing through it (well not since I was 10 and made my own Blockbuster buzzers.) Getting it sorted to a solid connection is your next main priority. Go see that nana ;)
