I've noticed since adding Tetra Acqua Balance there is like a blanket of white stuff on the side of my tank, almost looking like a film. On closer look, it almost looks like white thin threads (algae?) . The female platty has been nipping at it, so I am guessing it is edible. Do I need to scrape it off? is it toxic? does anyone know what it might be??

Many thanks..

I would post this thread in tropical discussion.
Just wipe it off for now.

I think its just bio film, i get it from time to time. I don't know the cause though i'm afraid or indeed if it is the same thing as mine - if it is then it won't do any harm, i wipe it off the front pane of glass but leave it on the others because, if it is bio film, then it must be there for a biological reason.

Hi Jonny, thanks for letting me know. I thought it might be something biological, as it appeared straight away nearly after adding the easy balance. I did try and get a look up close, but it didn't seem to be worm like, more like fluff.

Once again, thank you :)

Ok, I cleaned my glass off thoroughly of the white things hanging off the side of the tank and today when I check they are back again :(

I've tried to get a photo of it, but it's not clear. Looks like little threads almost that just gently sway in the flow of the water. I am puzzled, are they harmful to my fish? Can anyone identify them? is there something I can put in the water to get rid of them?

They seem more concentrated down the bottom of the tank so would they have come out of my sand?

Also does anyone have any ideas what the white ball is on my plant?

Please help.

Thanks hopefully Angie
