Funny Pleco

Plecos are cool fish. I've got three of them:

1 x gibbiceps pleco - 3"
1 x Blue panaque pleco - 8"
1 x Sailfin pleco - 4"

The gibbiceps and blue panaque work on cleaning the glass, and the sailfin and my sucking loach (6") work on the rest of the tank :D

But what you have to look out for is if you but one of the non-common plecos, make sure you have the right water conditions. For example i wanted a gold nugget pleco, but cos my malawi need a alkaline water i couldnt get one (gold nugget needs soft and acidic water type). He said they can adapt but is it worth paying £30 for a fish which might die?

I have two also. Love them. Here's my Stardust Plec Adult size is 5 or 6 inches but he was'nt cheap!

Feline, my snails are mystery snails, also known as apple snails, I bought them off of ebay a few months ago and they haven't reproduced at all but they certainly have grown, they're at least triple the size they were when I received them(about 2 1/2 inches diameter), they're known for eating algae and they don't even bother my plants at all ,only to clean the leaves
they've been able to withstand my clown loaches, closing up when they are bothered and making a break for it as soon as the loaches give up
My plec is a gold nugget and he's rather small, only about 4 inches max, and I think they stay small too, my ph is 7.6 which is a little too high and my water gh is at 9 which is slightly hard but he did adapt, and he gets prettier every day
all plecs are slightly different, I'm waiting for my lfs to get a zebra plec for my other tank and I've recently learned that they are strictly carnivorous, but very very beautiful

I'm so excited, maybe I should add a Pleco to my tank!!??

Any suggestions on one that would go good with the fish I have? (See signature)
I would want one that cleans the glass more than the bottom and one that wouldn't eat my Cory's (love em too much) and one that has scales and all because I don't want it to be too hard to take care of if it gets sick. Oh, and one that isn't picky about water specs.

Any suggestions and if anyone has any pictures of their suggestion that would ROCK!!!

Thanks,
Silver

suppose a common sailfin would be the easiest to care for (the dark brown one in my pic)

I read from a book containing all kinds of disease of tropical fishies, saying that snails will carry some parasites and will pass on to the fishies. Is that true even for the newly hatched ones?

I think that the snails will carry whatever parasite is in the tank they came from, but if you are raising them yourself it shouldn't be a problem. I feed pond snails to my Puffers, and also have large Ramshorn and Apple snails in my other tanks with no parasite trouble.

jomnog - yeah he is a sucking loach. I think the chinese algae eater has a more pointy front end. Plus he's got the attitude of a loach ;) He rules the tank :D
