my Betta, Pierce (in the Aquaview+ on my bureau) is insane. while Donny (in the community) greets me with a wiggle, a puff and a stare that says 'feed me. now.' Pierce practically leaps out of his skin to see me. i come into the room and see him all resting in the far back corner on a soft-plastic plant, and when he sees me he comes ALIVE! his scales sparkle, his fins puff to the extreme and he wiggles to and fro, trying to get out of the tank! bumps his nose right to the glass and wriggles all over trying to find a way out. he discovered the feeding hole lately, after a fly got into the tank, and has now taken to swimming under it before i feed him. since i can't get his food (powdered Betta Bites or Brine Shrimp Pellets) into the hatch i have to lift the lid. he almost got out once, leaping from the water and bonking his head on the lid, only to return to happily wiggling a moment later.

ahhh, the joys of silly Bettas =)

How 'bout a funny human story?

I like to put my face up to my purple/blue male's bowl and do my lips like his. He comes up to my lips (on his side of the bowl ;) ) and does the fishy mouth thingie with me. He probably thinks I'm crazy!

Brucie, my male betta "mutt" is a rather greedy fish. He'll eat anything.

The other day, for instance, I gave them some peas and Brucie was trying to eat the pea - whole! When this didn't work, he started swimming fast around the tank (which he shares with tetras and cherry barbs), trying to stop them having a bite too. It was a ridiculous sight - I wish I had a camera!

The problem was that every now and again, he couldn't resist having a bite of the pea. At which point, of course, it fell out of his mouth and he had to swim really fast to retrieve it. :look:

Of course, the really sad thing about this was that black neon tetras don't eat peas and although cherry barbs like peas, they are very shy creatures who won't approach a betta. So this mad chasing around the tank was all in vain.
