It looks like i have a case of fungus in my 29 Gallon Community Tank. I have treated this tank before but i just cant keep it gone for long. I have been treating with cupramine and doing 8 gallon water changes just about every day ( i skipped one day because i forgot). They now seem to be getting worse. One otto died and the Micky Mouse platy looks horible. The filter is a Penguin Biowheel 330. I raised the temp to 81*. The tank is well cycled and has been set up for over a year. Up until now i havent had a fish die in this tank for about 10-11 months. What is the best medication to get rid of the fungus and keep it gone?

 Is the fungus on all of your fish or only on a few? I treated my balloon molly with "Fungus Clear" and he got cured within a few days. It's so easy to. . .all you do it drop in a tablet and watch it fizz.

What does this fungus look like? I recently purchased some Discus and one has a white fuzzy substance on the dorsal fin and on the side. Another one has the same on the bottom film. Is your fungus white and fuzzy? Almost looks like cotton. Thanks

I talked with a Marine Biologists at That Fish Place and he confirmed it was a Fungus and should be treated with Formalin for the fungus and Melafix as a Antibacterial Remedy. I have been using Melafix for two days but started the Formalin this morning. It is now on four of the fish I purchased from The Discus Place. Will never order from them again as they have given me nothing but trouble.

I'm confused. I read in a fish book I got from the lfs that fungus only attacks dead fish or tissues yet my gf had 3 bettas (not all at once mind you) die within 2 days of getting white fuzz. By the time they died they looked like cotton balls they had so much white fuzz on them. After the first one died she cleaned the tank thorougly and got a new betta. I suggested adding a teaspoon of aquarium salt cuz I've had good experience with it so she did and the betta contracted the same fuzz and died within 2 days. She then threw the tank away bought a new one with new gravels and fake plants and purchased another tank. She caught the fuzz early on this before it got really large and added some blended antibiotics (I forget the brand) but the fish died within a day. Is this fungus or something else?

It sounds like the same white fuzzy substance that is on my Discus. The Marine Biologists told me it was fast spreading and would stay in the tank. I was advised to treat with formalin every two days until if cleared from the Discus and then treat again in about a week for 6 days. This would kill any reinfestation from the original outbreak. He also said to treat with Melafix as a antibacterial remedy. I have been using Melafix with no change and started Formalin this morning. Good luck. My problem came in on new fish. I have had fish for years and never saw this mess before but it spreads fast especially with stress. The fish I purchased were low on water and air and too many in the bags so they are still stressed. Have lost four. Good luck
