Is there a med for fungus (available in the uk) that is safe to use with shrimp in the tank?  My betta has a tiny tiny spot of fungus on his fin, it would be gone in no time with the Interpet Fungus and Fin Rot treatment I have but that is not so great for shrimp so I'm wondering if there is something else I could use.

Ooh I've got that as standby! Why is it no good for shrimp?

I'm pretty sure I was warned against it with shrimp in the tank... though I could be wrong... hopefully someone will say... as if it is safe... then much easier to use that one!  LOL

If it's at all possible, can you separate your betta and treat him in a tank of his own? That way you can remove the shrimp from the equation entirely and use the most effective fungal treatment possible. I'm sure the Interpet stuff is shrimp safe, Melafix and Pimafix, but I'm not sure that they're the best treatments in general.

I use protozin for my fish treatment but it's not shrimp safe. Anything with copper or malachite green is a no-no, definitely. Kordon Rid Fungus is shrimp safe but is very difficult to get here.

Getting him on his own, I think, is the best course of action and then you can chose much more readily which treatment to go for.

Anything that is safe for shrimp has the active ingredient at a low dosage, so you might as well use something that isn't shrimp-safe at half dose. Since you've got the Interpet, use that.

Half strength sounds a good idea.  It is such a tiny spot of fungus I doubt it needs any more than that anyway.

I need to spend this summer scouting out a second hand tank for quarantine.  I didn't ever replace mine that cracked.

You could up the temperature of the tank to 29-30c and then do daily water changes as well, as it sounds like fin rot, is the fin melting away with white or black edges or is it a spot?

It isn't fin rot.  There is just one small spot of fungus in the middle of one of the fins.

If its a fungus spot just do small daily water changes, less harmful than adding meds if they are not really needed.
