I was just given several fish that my friend didnt want to take care of any more. I went out and bought a 30 gallon tank and all bells and whistles i need for the tank. I noticed when she brought the fish over to me that several fish were sickly lookin. Fin and tail rot from poor water quality i presume. Thats why i didnt want her tank. It was nasty. She gave me two tin foil fish, 2 angel fish and what she called an ink fish. It has orange spots up its back. My question being, has anyone ever used" JUNGLE fungus eliminator" made by Jungle laboratories? The ingredients read: sodium chloride, nitrofurazone, furazolidone, potassium dichromate. It says its clears, fungus, red sores, grey skin, fish bloat, fin and mouth rot. white film on eyes, red streaks on fins, and swim bladder disease. I just got some from the store and am wondering if it works or should i not even waste my time? Any info would be appreciated! :D

I haven't used it, I hope some of the other members can be more helpful.

Is it new? If so then I know most of these things have to go through pretty stringent testing to ensure they work, although after the debatable results of the "cycle" perhaps they are not as thourough tests as I have thought.
Anyway hope the next few readers can be more helpful!

I am not sure if it's new. I bought it when i purchased my new tank for them. I wanted to get medicine in there tank asap. They are looking pretty bad. They eat well and seem lively, but the one tin foil fish's tail is shredded badly and one angel fish's tail and fins are very bad also. They need medicine badly and our petshop wont open till tuesday for me to pick up some Maracyn. Thats why i am asking about this fungus eliminator by jungle labs.
It says to do a 25 % water change, remove filter, and use 1tsp. for every 5 gallons. and a second dose can be added in 4 days after a 25% water change.
I went to the company's website (junglelabs.com) to see if it said any more info on the product and it basically said the same thing that is on the bottle i bought. Clears serious fungus and bacteria fast ect...
If i add plain salt to the tank will that help them recover any? I think its like 1 tbs. for every 5 gallons? Not sure if that will help severe fin rot ?

I have never used the stuff you talk about, but i do use a product called melafix which a lot of people use and i would suggest you get that in future,

As for the product you have,

If you follow the instructions on the bottle you shouldnt go to wrong,

A few general points for medication, ensure that you remove any carbon you have in your filters as this will remove the medication as soon as you put it in, when the period of mediction is over put carbon back in for 24-48 hours this will remove any leftover medication then take the carbon out again.

hope thats of help to you

whacky

Hi av,

like whacky says I always have a bottle of melafix and it seems to do a good job. Expensive though. but smells nice lol :D

It says to do a 25 % water change, remove filter, and use 1tsp. for every 5 gallons. and a second dose can be added in 4 days after a 25% water change.

I personally wouldn't use any medication if it tells you to remove the filter! - or is this just a typo?

Just one other thing if the tank is new was it cycled b4 you added the fish?

anyway good luck - its brave to take on sickly fish

:)

Actually it says to remove carbon from filter. But i use Aqua-tech preassembled filter cartriges, so i cant remove the carbon. Unless i slice it with a knife and remove it myself? I guess i will just wait till tuesday and just get some melafix. If they dont carry melifix is maracyn good to use?

I have used the jungle fungus eliminator before. It works well.

You have to remove carbon filtration for any medication for it will strip it from the water.

Oh thank you! I just wanted to get the okay before i use it. I hope it works well like it says it does. The poor fish look bad. I will start using it right away. I will have to remove my whole filter since i cant remove the carbon. Will this hurt anything? I will make sure i do a 25% water change 1st. Just wondering if not having a filter in at all will hurt them?
Thanks for the advise :D

You can remove the filter, but place a few airstones in it's place for water movement and carbon dioxide exchange.

Also you may want to invest in a small sponge filter. This way if you have to treat with medication you can pull out your main filter and let the sponge filter do the job. By the way the sponge filter can be left in all the time as this will provide excellant biological filtration.

Another question. The medicine did great on all but my one tinfoil fish. He still looks awful. His tail is just falling apart and there's the boney parts sticking out of his tail and now some of them are falling off. His left eye was hazy and now it has a white scab lookin piece over his whole eye. I dont know what to do with him. His mate is looking great. But he looks so sad!
I went to my local pet store and the only thing he carries now is coppersafe, and jungle fungus clear tank buddie tablets! He no longer carries maracyn ,maracyn 2 or melifix. He said he prefers the jungle fungus clear over maracyn. So now i am not sure what to do.
Help :(
