there is a white opaque stringy thing on my plant stems that is like a lot of even strings. is it algae or fungi? or slime? i will be happy to get a picture. maybe it is hair algaE?
 
Hard to say without a picture. First thing that comes to mind is black beard algae that has then died.

It looks like staghorn algae. If you get some liquid c02 and spot-dose the affected area with a syringe it will die back.

The long-term prevention for algae is to plant densely, provide dissolved co2 or liquid co2 and make sure your macro-nutrients (potassium nitrate and monopotassium phosphate) are dosed properly.
