Argulus - the fish louse (life cycle takes between 30 – 100 days dependant on the temperature.)
Lice are one of the biggest threats to fish that you may come accross.
They are approx 5 to 10mm in size and can clearly be seen with the naked eye.
The biggest danger from these parasites is from secondary infection such as; fungus, bacterial or internal problems.

The best way to deal with this problem is to phisically remove the lice with tweezers and treat the fish with an organophosphate based medication. If you treat the fish(ies) three times over the life cycle of the parasite you will, almost always, eradicates the lice.

Mortalily rate.
I had an infestation in one of my tanks and lost approx 60% due to a secondary systemic bacterial infection. Although I'm sure if I had caught it earlier this would've been lower.

kinda looks like a white zit now. it looks like it goes under the skin a tiny bit. like a zit!

How big is the white spot, where are they on the fish.

mostly on the head and behind the gill plates. a few on the upper side of the flank under the dorsal. the spots are larger on the female than on the male but in general about 1mm diamenter and about 2mm high on the female and 1mm high on the male.

Myxosporidiosis



Symptoms:

Fish exhibit numerous white cysts on the skin and gills. Cysts can become very large causing the skin overlying the gills to swell, which will prevent the fish from getting enough oxygen. Because this disease affects the gills, fish may be seen at the surface, acting like they can't get enough air. In severe infestations, the fish may bloat up, with tumor-like protrusions and eventually die.



Cause:

The myxosporidean parasite Henneguya.



Treatment:

This disease is fairly difficult to treat. Increased aeration in combination with merbromin baths is the only current method for treatment.
