Hey

So my platy has given birth. I've managed to find 9 so far and I don't know if there are more. They are tiiiiiny so don't have any markings or anything yet.

I've had to make a breeder box out of some tupperware and an old pair of stockings (attached). I can't put her in it but I'm just trying to find and catch her fry as and when I can.

I hope it's OK. Let me know your thoughts. If you think what I've made is a total no go then I will go and get one from my LFS tomorrow.

How many babies do they normally have? I guess that some may have got eaten as I've got some greedy buggers in there!

I drilled some holes into the bottom of the tupperware, then put a stocking over it and cut a hole in the top. I then added the fry.

The homemade fry trap looks just fine to me.

You can expect a drop of around 20 to 35 fry from a platy but unless you are very good at it you will never capture that many before they get eaten.

They are really cute. I managed to save 9 last night. not many but I imagine I'll lose more so I don't want to get too attached.

They are doing well and seem to enjoy eating crushed up flakes. How much/often should I feed them?

I'll take some more pics! They are still very small and like tadpoles... they don't have any colours or markings yet,

If you want them to grow faster, feed 5+ times a day is what I've heard. Hope to see some more pictures of these cuties

You're trap looks great! Crushed up flakes are a good food to feed fry; you can feed them 2-3 times a day, (this is what I did) but you can feed them more often if you really want to. Put in a tiny pinch per feeding, and remove any uneaten food.

ahhh they look just like my v. platy fry!!!!!!! sooo cute!!!!!

where did you get the little bucke tfrom??? i got one with a goldfish in from the fair a few years ago. (dont worry i've cleaned it)
