USA,
We will be gone for about 3 days I think in a week or too, and I need to plan what to do with the babies. My aunt is coming over to check on the cats and all, and feed the fish, but they can get feed once a day, and the bettas can go w/out for a while. But what do we do with the babies? She will not be there for ever, just like 20-30 mins. And they need to be feed four times a day.

try like feeding them alot b4 u leave and then buys some of those fish pelets that they have at the lfs for large fish like koi and stuff. just a couple of big pelets will be enogh food for 20 fry for 30 days. u can alsoy try liquifying flake foods and depositing them at the bottom of the tank with a turky baster.

fry can accually take care of themselve surpriseingly well, they will eat crums and stuff off the bottom of the tank if they get hungry enogh. iv heard of fry surviveing 3 weeks just on crap of the bottom of an abandonded fish tank.

hope u have fun on ur vacation and hope the fry do well wen your gone. :D

I hope so to, lol. So ill be getting some of those sticks or pellets then.

If your aunt is coming over once a day to feed the cats and other fish, could she not feed the fry as well? You can show her how much to feed them, and this way they won't have to go searching through the gravel for food. Having only one meal a day may make the fry grow a little slower, but they will be fine until you get back. :)

Every once in a while i put some small shrimp pellets in my fry tank and it took them literally all day to eat 1-2 SMALL pellets. I think your best bet is those koi pellets and just having your aunt feed them also.

for a few days the fry will be fine on one meal a day. I would recommend that you dont overfeed before you go as this can lead to many problems with your fry. HTH :)

my mom said to bring the fry to her house, but she has an evil dog, and I dont know if hed do anything to them. Usually when we go on vacation my dad boards up the upstairs so that the cats wont destroy it, because sometimes when they play they rip things, and molly, the litttle one, likes to do odd scratching things on the stairs, and the fry are upstairs.
I did give them a shrimp pelette once but I dont think they liked it. And would I have to unplug the heater when we leave as well? or does that stay on? I could move the fish to the basement fish/cat room though.

i would let your aunt feed the fry once a day and add the shrimp pellet. its only three days and they will find all kinds of food that has fallen from other feedings. the stress of the move at such a young age could kill them. their growth will be slowed down by those three days but they will make it up in no time. leave the heater on.good luck and enjoy your vacation.

Try getting one of those little pill holder things that have a compartment for every day of the week. Put the amount of food you want the fry to eat each day in each compartment. Give it to whoever will take care of them and tell them to only give the amount of food in the compartment.
