I have never been succesful at trapping a fish right bef ore giving birth. Today before I did my water changes I noticed one of my high fin gals square and her birthing tube was really noticeable. I moved all the decorations and plants to one side to prepare for the gravel vacuuming.

I put the breeder with the divider into the tank with one hand and herded her with the net into it as to not cause too much stress on her. It worked divinely.

Minus 2 five gallon buckets later I see half a fry (tail side) sticking out of her!

10 minutes later she starts to defecate and you can clearly stil see the half fry still there along with the excriment. She passes her excriment 10 minutes later and the fry is still hanging therr.

It has been 30-40 minutes its been hanging half way out. When will it drop? Is this normal? I'm teribly worried.

While moving the decorations I did catch two fry about the same size as the fry I found 3 days ago so I didn't think they were from her but from someone else like them. I don't know tho.

I'm terribly worried for her. Pls reply and thank you for reading :(.
Here are two pics. Best I could do. Its the greyish stick hanging out of her bum of course. Its not poo I promise you. The second pic, idk, maybe u can see how open her vent is and that something is obviously there...

Since it took almost an hour to drop this one is she done? How long should I leave her??

Good to hear it made it out! :) I know when I had livebearers years ago I always watched them birth. This time round with my Mollies and Guppies I have yet to witness it. Or even have them go by the textbook squared off look. When they have them....they have them! Makes it hard now that I am looking for fry with possible certain characteristics! lol But we make due.

it took my swordtail all morning and part the afternoon to get them all out.

Thanks for tthe input guys. Please check out my journal last entry to see the cute days ending for this little one :). My journal is titled 'lolobunnz's' :)

I never get to see my platy giving birth - she always seems to wait for lights out at night and by morning she's slim again!

My 'lights out' ends at 130pm when I get home. So I caught her giving birth to the last one. My work schedule is why the times are odd.

Maybe I should get light timers....not enough outlets argh! Lol
