I know there is no CHEAP way to set up a tank but I am fixing to get over run by fry. -_- :p I plan on using a 10 gal and wondered what all I would need to "start" it out. I do plan on making it a regular tank for my son to help with as the money problems sort out. I guess my question is...what are the bare essentials for a fry tank? I have always started with the full setup and added many extras later but can't afford to as of yet.

ok Mr Bink, the cheapest way to get a small tank going for fry is this. You have a 10 gallon tank I assume. Go to the LFS and look for a box filter.

Here is a link to an auction that has them sale
box filter
The filter should cost you no more than 4 bucks and after you get it all you are going to need to do is take some aged gravel and filter floss and hook it up.

You will also need to get a small air pump to drive the filter.

The total cost of the tank, filter and air should run you now more that 20.00 That doesnt include gravel, lights, and plants

Hi Mr Bink

All you need for a fry tank is a tank (HeHeHe :D  :D  ), a foam filter (or box filter) and a air pump.

Test kits are all ways a good idea. The other thing to think of is the food for the fry.
