Fry are about 2 weeks old now. This is the second spawn this month. Parents were taking hair off my arm when I was cleaning tonight, especially when I got around a certain area of the tank... they have more eggs :X Spawn #3 should hatch tomorrow.

Dad was actually guarding the eggs this time! So all these pics feature papa.

You can see the little white fry blurbs all over the middle of the tank, there are about 40 going strong

18 gallon :look: still waiting for aponogetons to grow in better. As soon as the leaves reach the top of the water they die. It's such a random mess of plants :dunno:

The jewel babies look really neat, good to see the parents are actually taking care of the fry, and making more and more! I have to ask, aren't you scared those rocks are going to fall over and break the glass? I worry about things like that for some reason.

I had a few mini avalanches when I first set it up, but I think I finally mastered the art of stacking round rocks. It took a long time lol.

You can't see it in the pic, but a lot of them do have flat edges so they are pretty stable and the larger flater rocks are at the bottom and I put the smaller longer rocks at the top.

One side effect is that I have one base rock that's like the starting domino, if that one on the right hand side goes, they'll all go :/

Haha I totally see that happening, for some reason i have O.C.D over things like that. I'm scared to death to stack rocks higher then maybe 3 levels for some reason. Tank stands too, I always think theyre going to topple over. How can you tell the sexes of your jewel cichlids? Does it have something to do with color, or length of fins? I have a few and I have no idea what they are. The one in the pic is definately one of the most colorful ones I've ever seen.

Awesome
As they say,"once you pop, you never stop".....by this i mean you will become the local jewel supplier :p
Mine NEVER stop

Thanks guys!

Not sure if I've already posted these, so here is a pic of the female full of eggs... that's how I can tell them apart  My female is about 1/3 larger then the male and she is a deep blue on the face and body, the male is more of an aqua green. Both of them get really red throats when they are in breeding mode, but the male's is a little more intense.
